The Boston International Chinese Martial Arts Tournament (BICMAT) Association is hosting the first Chinese martial arts tournament to be held in Boston in 20 years on Sunday, October 27, 2002. The event will provide a much-needed forum for the exchange of Chinese cul ture and for increasing the Greater Boston community's awareness of the diversity of Chinese martial arts. Chinese martial arts encompass a wide variety of exercises and defense techniques. Having developed over thousands of years, the disciplines are large, diverse, and complex. The Tournament promises to be an exciting showcase of many of these practices. The tournament will be an all day event, with as many as 24 competion rings. Practicioners of all levels will be competing in various categories of Chinese martial arts. The day's schedule includes:


Nationally recognized masters demonstrating forms, such as :

  • Wushu - A Chinese Martial Arts form that involves forms, weapons, and sprring
  • Tai Chi - A Chinese system of physical exercises designed especially for self-defense and meditation.
  • Traditional weapons demonstrations
  • Choreographed fighting

Competitions in various styles all levels of experience, such as:

  • Single person forms with and without traditional hand weapons
  • Two person point, (light contact) sparring
  • Two person full contact sparring
  • Choreographed sparring with up to 8 participants

Join us in an event that will exhibit the beauty and diversity of the Chinese martial arts culture and help enrich the Boston community.
